History and Manufacturing Plant

The current building, located in Andorno Micca near the bridge over the river Cervo, has a long history, begining in the second half of the 19th century when the Sella family started the activity of fraying. In 1910, ownership was transferred from the Sella family to the company "Fiorina & C. filati e tessuti", which varied its production from fraying to spinning and weaving.
Subsequently, in 1928 , the property changed further and passed into the hands of Francesco Aimone, who converted the production into a real wool factory. In the second half of the 20th century the ownership then was transferred to the company FINI.T.A.L., a fabric dyeing and finishing company.

Finally, in 2013, Iride was born. Since then, Iride has been engaged in major renovation work of the entire building. Today, you can see how the entire building has been completely renovated while maintaining the characteristics of the 19th century that distinguish it and make it unique in its kind.

The interventions began with the internal areas of the company, starting from the restructuring of all the oldest areas and then continuing with the construction, expansion and renovation of all departments. Starting from the ground floor, Iride has expanded and improved the dyeing department to make it more functional and, in order to meet current safety regulations, has installed automatic distribution systems for chemical products such as chloride and sulphate. Also on the ground floor, Iride has taken care of doubling the workshop and creating a new and functional color kitchen.

Finally, the ground floor saw the renovation of the entire area dedicated to wet finishing and the modernization of dry finishing. Many of the machines have been replaced, investing in modernity and sustainability. Two examples among all are the latest generation of continuous washing that has significantly reduced water consumption and the vaporization which has more than halved steam and energy consumption.

In recent years, the first, second and third floors, which were previously in disuse, have been completely recovered. Currently on the first floor is located a local unit of TessilControll System, dedicated to the inspection of all production that is to say quality control; the second floor has become a full-fledged production unit and the third floor has been used to house the new offices, which were completed in 2025.

Particularly attentive to its environmental footprint, Iride has insulated all the water and steam lines and installed a hot water recovery system that allows it to be reused in the washing tanks at fifty degrees, leading to a reduction in energy, gas and water consumption.

The most recent investments have seen in 2024 the installation of a photovoltaic system of a 240 Kw for self-production, the entry to be part of a REC to collaborate with other companies/entities of Cervo Valley and, finally, the replacement of both steam generators with two plants of the latest generation, useful to further reduce consumption.

Thanks to the extensive renovation project, in 2023 Iride was among the finalists of the +Beauty in the Valley Award for the Building section.
